Things you might not know

Hello followers, apologies about my absence for the past couple days, but I had to concentrate on things other than blogging, I notice I have an amazing 276 followers now, so I just want to say thank you so much for supporting me and this blog.  I mainly made this thing to show off my huge collection of classic, and obscure retro games, so It's cool to see so many people interested in my passion as well.

Since I believe talking about  common, or popular games is boring(honestly, what could I write that you haven't already heard or experienced about Mario?) I'm going to share some knowledge I've picked about about retro stuff that you probably didn't know or haven't heard before.

lol Goku?
I know many of my followrs are probably(or openly) Anime fans and one of the things that has always bothered me about retro games is how anime titles are often butchered, or completely changed for their American version releases.  Anime titles usually had the titles changed, and some of the graphics completely redone.(many of you might be familiar with the NES game "Dragon Power" basically being a much dumber version(heh) of the Dragonball series)

Another such titles which personally pisses me off even more than Dragon Failure is the game "Last Battle" for the Sega Genesis.  This game is actually a dumbed down version of the ultra cool anime "Fist of the Northstar" Which I fondly remember watching on Cinemax at 4am when I was a kid.  I was blown away by how ultra violent and cool this movie was so imagine my glee when I found out there was a video game based off of it.  Then my hopes sunk when I picked up a copy and found a douchebag who looked like David Hasselhoff on the cover and all of the great things about the movie were taken out in favor of some lame karate fighting and badly translated dialogue.

Anyway that's my little rant, Opinions about this?  I'll be catching up with all my followers today so comments are appreciated :)

Durrrrr

  12. I played the PS1 Fist of the North Star games, but I didn't know there was one for the Genesis. I agree with you though. Anime games get/got the shaft back in the nineties.

  13. That is a horrifying thing to find out lol. Then again, most anime came to the US in a butchered state at first (freaking dubs).

  14. I want them to make a movie based on the cover of the Last Battle game. "Oh no, its David asselkicker run!"
"Not so fast poorly protected guy dressed up like a night, Ima kick my heeled slipper foot right through your shielded face and take your magic spool away from you!"
    "My magic spooooooooolllllllllll"
Coming to a theater near you.

  15. Cinemax at 4am is kung fu. Cinemax at 1am is softcore gold. When I was younger, I was watching at 1, not 4.

  24. we have very similar tastes. i also remember watching fist of the north star when i was 11 or so and thought it was so awesome because of how violent it was. at that point i only had dbz and sailor moon... nowadays all of the animes on cartoon network are bloody, so it's not as fun for those growing up to sneak onto a prime channel and watch something 'edgy.' following you!

  26. I just watched "Fist of the North Star" again a few weeks ago. It wasn't as violent as I remembered but it was still good.

  28. Gotta love unoriginal Americans jacking material from overseas to pump out crappy games!

    ReplyDelete
  29. lol last battle....remember that game, all the characters were jacked. Love how all 80-90's cartoons and games all had characters that were built like pro bodybuilders XD.

  34. David Douchelhoff... definitely looks like him haha... the art on that cartridge reminds me of Final Fight on SNES...

  35. I remember the last battle on the genesis. That game was actually kind of fun. I agree with the cover art however. The guy looks like he's doing a ballet move.

  38. It seems really that most games based on a property from another media ended up not great back then.
